The Open Range Easy-to-Open Gate Latch, which allows one to stay on-board to enter and leave a fenced area, fits all widths of free-standing gates. To operate, one merely lifts the hanging handle, gives the gate a push, passes through, and pushes it shut; it latches automatically. The hanging handle is high enough that livestock can't reach it. The device can also be purchased with a full-steel frame or brackets for a 4-inch by 4-inch wood frame.
