Over-Center Locking Hand Clutch
Over-Center Locking Hand Clutch

Schlesvig, IA, farmer Francis Kronkhe made an Over-Center Locking Hand Clutch using a three-point linkage arrangement. He mounted a hand lever so it rotates on the side of the steering console. He also mounted an adjustable-length shaft so one end pivots on the clutch pedal shank; the free end fastens in a pivoting arrangement to a small protrusion on the hand lever. When Kronkhe pulls the lever toward him, the shaft and clutch pedal move downward to disengage the clutch against the force of the clutch spring. By adjusting the length of the shaft, the linkage can be made to lock the disengaged clutch into place when the small protrusion on the hand lever passes the center point.

Caution symbol Caution Notes: A clutch over-centering device should not be used to secure the tractor while the transmission is still in gear. Failure could lead to unintended movement of the machine.
