Ladder with Retractable Step
The photo shows the tractor’s original three-step ladder with the added bottom retractable step and added left-side hand rail.

Monticello, IL, farmer Delbert Lubber has hung a Ladder with Retractable Step on his White 2-135 tractor. (He uses the White primarily because its existing top step is large, and fueling can be done from it.) His "ladder" has three steps—the upper two being constructed of 7-inch metal plank grating, and the bottom one being a purchased retractable step like that on a camper trailer. This bottom step, which extends to within 10 inches of the ground, retracts under the next higher step to prevent snagging on objects when the tractor is moving. Lubber bolted a vertical hand-rail of round bar stock to the steps and to the tractor frame inside the hood. The railing gives him greater stability while climbing into the cab. Neither steps nor railing interfere with row crop operations.
