Besler 4000-Series Large Square-Bale Flaker
Large Square-Bale Flaker being used to portion a large bale in the field

With a Besler 4000-Series Large Square-Bale Flaker installed on a flat-bed truck, one person can "flake off" large square bales onto the ground, feed bunk, hay ring, etc. while sitting in the truck. Powered by an electronic worm-driven gearbox with control cord running to a switch in the cab, the 5- x 9- foot, chain-driven apparatus has a safety shield that pushes each bale backward and flaking fingers that separate the bale into 4-inch flakes. As the last flake falls, the shield springs up to cover the fingers. The Besler Bale Flaker can feed one 4 x 4 x 8 bale or two 3 x 4 x 8 or 3 x 3 x 8 bales. This device would allow persons with mobility impairments to feed large square bales of hay or other forages without having to leave the truck cab.
