This Tag-and-Scan System for the Visually Impaired allows for any item (e.g., tools, container contents, clothing, medicines) to be identified, described, etc. then audibly 'read back' every time one needs to utilize it. The system involves three components-an iOS or Android smartphone, the free WayAround mobile app, and a WayTag near-field communication (NFC) chip-enabled sticker-, button-, magnet-, or clip-backed labels. With the WayAround app, one IDs and records desired information re. the item onto the WayTag label. The user can add a description of the item and additional details like usage instructions, dates, or clickable contact information. To later access what was recorded, one simply taps the WayTag with the phone, which then audibly reads back the info that the tag contains.
