Biodegradable Paper Mulch
Brown paper mulch beneath green vegetable plants in a garden row

Like plastic mulch, Biodegradable Paper Mulch absorbs the sun's heat to warm the soil, prevents weed growth, and reduces surface moisture loss. But unlike plastic, it doesn't have to be gathered up and disposed of after the crop has been harvested. Instead, the paper slowly disintegrates, adding organic matter to the soil as it breaks down. Made from fiber-reclaimed box clippings, a roll of this mulch is reportedly flexible, creped for installation and handling, and has built-in ribs that conform to uneven terrain.
