Gambrel Restrainer
Left pic of yellow gambrel restrainer. Rt pic of goat on ground in gambrel restrainer.

When an animal is safely restrained, a worker with a disability can administer veterinary care even without strong upper body strength or quick mobility. Intended for use with adult sheep or goats, a Gambrel Restrainer (made of polycarbonate) is designed so as to hold the neck and front legs alongside each other, which effectively but safely immobilizes the animal. Key times the device is used include the following:(1) to prevent a mother's aggressiveness at or soon after birthing if one needs to intervene; (2) when working the animal (e.g., trimming hooves, ear tagging); and (3) when transporting the individual animal via pickup, ATV/UTV, or trailer.
