Concrete Slabs Around the Farmstead
Left pic cement slabs in front of home with wheelchair ramp. Center pic cement slabs in front of tented workspace. Rt pic slabs near animal chutes.

Concrete Slabs Around the Farmstead (versus dirt or gravel) reduce the trip hazards of mud and ruts, especially for one with a mobility impairment. Having a smooth, solid surface, they help provide stable footing, ensure convenient wheelchair access, and require little, if any, additional maintenance over the years. A few examples of where (and why) concrete slabs would be advantageous- livestock working and sorting areas (firm footing for both human and animal); beekeeping areas where hives have to be lifted and moved (smooth surface needed); vegetable or fruit enterprise wash-and-pack areas (eliminates tripping hazards); and equipment maintenance areas (allows a creeper to be used).
