Homemade Feed Bunk Cover Lifter
Man on right cranking winch to lift feed bunk cover next to red barn.
Picture showing pulleys attached to wall of barn or shed with cable attached to feed bunk cover.

A hinged metal cover that runs the full length of the feed bunk ensures that Michigan farmer Aaron Kaminski's cattle feed is kept both clean and dry. Now, with this Homemade Feed Bunk Cover Lifter, Kaminski can raise/lower the entire cover from one place, without having to walk, manually open/close, or carry anything. His device is simply a hand-cranked cable-winch system with pulleys evenly spaced along the building overhang, with the cables running down to eye-screws at the far edges of the cover. Cranking one direction raises it; cranking the other direction lowers it. (An electric winch with remote control would enable one to open/close the cover from a tractor seat.)
