Reacher/Grabber Cane
Left pic of reacher-grabber cane closed. Rt pic of can opened so lower end has 2 jaws and handle has pull trigger.

A Reacher/Grabber Cane can improve stability for people with poor balance and also help grasp objects from the floor or from high shelves. It looks like an ordinary single-tip cane but has a built-in grabber mechanism that can pick up objects reportedly as small as a coin or as large as a bottle. Pulling up on the sliding handle in the middle of the cane's shaft causes the bottom of the shaft and the tip to split apart, becoming essentially a two-pronged grabber. Squeezing the trigger on the handle causes the grabber to grasp the object. When the trigger is released and the sliding handle on the shaft is pushed back down, the cane returns to its original single-tip state.
