Homemade Forklift Fold-Up Step
Green forklift with horizontal metal rod bolted onto lower side panel at wheel axle height and metal step fastened to metal rod with chain to pull it up or let it down and metal stand welded to step for the down position.

This Homemade Forklift Fold-Up Step was designed for an individual limited in ability to lift his legs more than 12 inches. (His forklift's platform height measured some 23 inches above ground level.) The step with its single support leg proved very sturdy with at least a 500-pound weight capacity. It was affixed to a length of steel pipe bracket-mounted to machine's lower body (which also housed the fuel tank). A chain running from the top of the support leg to a lever bolted to the cab's frame allowed the user to fold up the step once on board. The website below provides both a materials-needed list and a text/photo description of how step was constructed.
