Hide-Away Chute
The Hide-Away Chute in folded position and unfolded with a cow restrained

The Hide-Away Chute allows one person to restrain and work an animal. It consists of a head gate mounted to a wall and a side gate hinged to the head gate (see figure). To use the chute, (a) the head gate swings away from the wall, (b) a bracing bar secured with a pin holds the gate perpendicular to the wall, (c) the side gate swings out from the head gate until parallel to the wall (or it can remain extended out from the head gate to act as a pen divider), and (d) a rope running from the head gate through a pulley to the back of the chute is pulled to close the head gate, thus restraining the animal. The chute folds flush against the wall for storage.
