The Automatic Poultry Door allows the birds to be outside during the day and safe inside at night without someone having to open and close the coop's access door. Depending on make and/or model, automatic doors differ in where placed, size, power source, open/close triggering system, and raise/lower mechanism. As to placement, some mount inside the coop, some outside. Regarding size, 12 inches wide by 15 inches high is standard, with some smaller or larger, depending on species of bird. As to power source, there are plug-in models that run off a standard electrical outlet or off a battery and models that are solar-powered. Concerning triggering system, some have daylight/dusk sensors, others feature programmable timers. As to raise/lower mechanism, there as screw-drive doors and cable-lift doors. Some are equipped with special safety features, such as auto-reverse capability.
