Berkey, OH, farmer Steve Ford, who has quadriplegia, operates a Modified Grasshopper Lawn Mower that now "fits" his special needs and tall stature. The modifications included: (a) the seat raised 14 inches to accommodate his long legs; (b) its back raised 14 inches and its side extended perpendicular to the back to provide greater side-to-side support; (c) a five-point, racing-type seat belt harness; (d) armrests added that fold out of the way during transfer and lock in place during operation; (e) the console (built up 8 inches above the fender) attached to the ROPS to facilitate backing up; (c) a fire extinguisher mounted on the back, with lines running from it to spray nozzles around the engine and transmission compartments; and (d) a quick-release seatbelt installed.
