There are two types of Hand-Pumped Garden Sprayers—the 1- to 3-gallon-capacity Hand-Held Sprayer, used to control weeds in smaller lawns and gardens; and the 4-gallon-capacity Backpack Sprayer, used to cover larger lawn and garden areas. They are equipped with either piston pumps or diaphragm pumps. The piston pump creates higher pressure in the spray tank but cannot be used with abrasive spray or powder mixes. The diaphragm pump creates less pressure, but any type of spray can be used. Flat nozzles for spraying general areas and cone-shaped nozzles for spraying individual weeds are available.
