A Truck Bed-Mounted Big-Bale Spear is engineered for lifting and moving large round hay bales with a pickup or flatbed truck. They are powered by a hydraulic cylinder and a pump that run off the vehicle's electrical system or separate battery. Also, most come with a long battery cables, a fuse kit for electrical protection, a pump cover for rain/snow protection, and a retractable coupler arm, which allows pulling a gooseneck without the unit having to be removed. The dual spears, which range from 33 to 48 inches and are tapered to a point for easier penetration, can reportedly lift and haul up to a 2,500-pound bale.

Estimated Cost Cost range: $1,400-$1,900
