An Electric Handbike Attachment transforms a rigid-frame manual wheelchair into a power scooter primarily used outdoors-from streets to trails to cross-country. This attachment consists of a steering column with trail bike-type handlebars at one end and a 15- to 18-inch-diameter pneumatic tire at the other end plus a rechargeable-battery-powered 250- to 350-watt motor (usually in the steering column). It has multiple speed levels with a top of 15+ mph and a range of about 15 miles before recharge. After initial installation, attaching to/detaching from the chair reportedly takes less than 10 seconds. The various makes/models come with many standard features, including reverse gear, disc brakes, light system, LED screen, USB port, horn, plus other options.
