Smartphone Captioning App
Telephone showing text message on the screen

A Smartphone Captioning App instantly converts into visual text a phone call or live-voiced conversation that comes to one's Apple iOS or Android device. Most apps provide automatic speech recognition (ASR) captioning, but some have the option of also providing a live transcriber. The app and captioning services are made available free of charge to the deaf or the hard-of-hearing via captioned telephone services (CTS) funds administered by the FCC; however, users must agree to terms that state they need these services because of a hearing impairment. Some apps can reportedly caption over 100 languages and allow conversations to be saved to be re-read later. The apps listed below are but a few of the many available through the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and other outlets.
