Foot-Operated Header Control Switches

Foot-Operated Header Control Switches—a pair of dimmer switches installed in the floor of his combine cab—allows Mound City (MO) farmer Paul Deatz hands-off header control while cutting down on wear. One switch turns the header’s float control off and on; the other operates the feeder house and header electric clutch. Deatz clicks off the float control as he approaches the end of the field, then turns the header off as he makes the corner. He operates the switches with his left foot, which frees his right arm for other combine controls. (The switches are wired so that the original clutch button can still be used.)
