Winch-Powered Tractor Step Lift

Advised not to climb after two hip replacements, Yutan (NE) farmer Charles Zaugg designed and built a 12-volt Winch-Powered Tractor Step Lift for his International 5088. It consists of two expanded metal steps (spaced 7½ inches apart) that slide up and down a pair of channel irons bolted onto the tractor frame in place of the original steps. Roller bearings inside the channel irons ensure smooth movement. The winch, which is mounted under the cab and operates off the tractor’s battery, is fitted with a hook that attaches to a bracket on the bottom step. Controlled with a switch on the cab door, the steps slide up and down at a constant, controlled speed.
