Lifeward ReWalk Mobility Exoskeleton
The Lifeward ReWalk Mobility Exoskeleton is designed to enable individuals with spinal cord injuries or other mobility limitations to perform ambulatory functions unassisted. The device consists of an external frame and control unit that fits on one’s legs and part of the back plus a set of crutches. Movement is generated by a set of gears at the knee and hip areas, with control achieved by crutch-attached remote, wrist-worn controller, and tilt sensors. Users can choose from two walking speeds through a wrist-worn controller, and therapists can adjust various walking parameters through an app. Besides walking and standing, the device also allows one to ascend/descend stairs and curbs. (ReWalk’s cost, which is eligible for Medicare coverage, includes training on proper operation.)
