Homemade Ratchet Strap Winding Tool
Once your strapped-down cargo is off-loaded, rolling the straps back up can be a frustrating (and for some, a physically daunting) task. The solution for Tom McCormick (North Liberty, IN) is his Homemade Ratchet Strap Winding Tool, which involves a cordless impact drill, a half-inch drive socket, and a short length of scrap electrical PVC pipe. McCormick drove the socket snuggly into one end of the pipe; and at the other end, he cut a slit a bit longer than the width of the strap. To operate, he simply slides the slit over the edge of the strap, connects the drill onto the socket, and squeezes the trigger, which coils up the strap.
