Homemade Retractable Cab-Access Ladder
This Homemade Retractable Cab-Access Ladder provides sloped steps, which are also closer together than standard steps, for climbing onto large equipment. It utilizes a standard aluminum stepladder and was designed for one finding it difficult to lift his/her leg high enough to reach a combine’s ladder rungs or to climb the vertical ladders typically attached to equipment. The website below lists the materials/hardware/tools needed then provides text, photos, and instructions on how to build and safely use the ladder. Once built and attached, simply pulling on the rope lifts ladder up 24 inches and swings the bottom part tightly against the equipment. Redeploying the ladder from the cab is accomplished by stepping/pushing on the top of it. (Besides combines, this retractable-ladder idea could work for any piece of equipment or place where a ladder needs to be raised and lowered a given distance.)
