Gate Shut Automatic Closer

The “Gate Shut” Automatic Closer was invented by Lyle Abernathy of Yacolt, WA, to be used with tubular-framed metal gates. Fitting on the gate’s hinged side, it consists of a single spiral spring with a clamp at the bottom and catch-arm at the top. The spring tightens when the gate is opened than shuts it when the gate is released. Tension can be adjusted by loosening and rotating the clamp. The “Gate Shut” comes in two sizes—one for 4- to 8-foot gates and one for 10- to 16-foot gates, and includes spacers for pipe diameters less than the standard 2 inches. Optional hardware is available that allows the gate to be kept open.
