Downed Cow Crane
The Downed Cow Crane is a self-contained, portable cow lifter that is designed to let one not only lift a cow to its feet without causing trauma or injury, but also walk it so it can gradually regain the use of its legs. It consists of 18-inch rear wheels, smaller front caster wheels, a multi-position tongue plus hitch for towing, a front-mounted nylon strap, and a rear-mounted hip clamp (both raised/lowered by worm-gear winches) for lifting. To operate: (1) roll it into position over the downed cow, (2) engage the clamp to raise the cow’s rear portion just enough to run the strap underneath its front legs, (3) winch the strap up until cow standing, and lastly (4) tow the unit slowly until the cow is able to walk on its own.
