Homemade Woodcutting Stand

McCreary (Manitoba) farmer Ron Sonnenberg’s Homemade Woodcutting Stand not only helps make quick work of producing firewood for his outdoor furnace, but also helps save his back. The base stand, which measures 5 feet by 6 feet, is made from thick-walled steel pipe. A 12-pipe is mounted along the front edge with steel re-rod fingers welded every 3 to 4 inches along its length. The ends of the fingers are bent upward at a 90-degree angle to keep the logs from rolling off. Sonnenberg loads several logs at once onto the stand (via tractor loader) and slices through two or three at a time. He then transfers the cut pieces onto a trailer for transport to his furnace. “I never have to pick wood up off the ground.”
