Homemade ATV Hand Shifter

Having ‘drop foot,’ a medical condition that limits his left foot’s upward motion, Coffeyville, OK, farmer Edward Everleigh designed this Homemade ATV Hand Shifter-in this case, a 400 Suzuki Eiger. It consists of (a) a 1- by 1/4-inch flat strap U-bolted to the front rack and bent to follow the contour of the fender down to the foot pedal; (b) the shifter itself (fabricated out of flat steel) and a 3/8-inch rod with ball joints at the top and bottom, which allows the shifter to more forward (higher gears) and back (downshift); and (c) a U-shaped metal piece with bolts that attaches the rod to the foot pedal. When the handlebars are straight, the shifter is only 6 inches away. The entire unit can be removed for others to use.
