Homemade Gooseneck UTV Trailer

His Homemade Gooseneck UTV Trailer allows Birdeye (IN) farmer Chris Rahman’s Polaris Ranger to haul two big round bales, among other things. The gooseneck design, he claims, offers better weight distribution and steering ability. The trailer is 51/2 feet wide and 10 feet long with a stake bed; the frame and hitch are 2- by 3-inch rectangular, 1/8-inch steel tubing; and corner of the gooseneck hitch is reinforced by a 1- by 1-foot, 1 /4-inch steel plate gusset. The trailer’s axles are equipped with spring shocks from a golf cart. The vertical post for the gooseneck was fabricated from 18-inch-long, 3-inch-diameter pipe with a 21/2-inch pipe inside so Rahman can adjust the gooseneck’s height. Connecting the pipe to the bed of the UTV is a clevis-design rather than standard ball hitch, which he feels allow for better travel in rough ground. He took the bed off the Ranger, replacing it with a plate bolted to the cross member on the frame and attached the clevis directly to it.
