A holistic system of support

As AgrAbility looks ahead, both challenges and opportunities are emerging. To strengthen long-term sustainability, National AgrAbility and state projects continue to explore diversified strategies and resources to promote financial viability. Some state projects have also developed independent funding streams to help their clients obtain essential, but often expensive, assistive technologies.

At the same time, advancing technology offers powerful new tools for clients.Infographic of center circle with four additional circles intersecting around it. Center circle represents AgrAbility clients; top circle represents employment including support self and others and paying taxes; right circle represents family including engaging family in client service process and supporting caregivers; bottom circle represents community impact including employing others and reducing need for public assistance; left circle represents quality of life, including giving hope and restoring sense of worth. Artificial intelligence is reshaping assistive technology, with innovations such as smart glasses that help individuals with visual impairments navigate or provide real-time captioning and ASL translation for those with hearing loss. Exoskeletons now support not only mobility but also tasks like lifting, carrying, gripping, and bending. Digital platforms can further expand outreach, personalize services, and connect farmers with adaptive solutions more quickly and effectively.

Yet even the most advanced tools cannot replace the importance of people. The farmers themselves, family members, AgrAbility staff members, rehabilitation professionals, and agricultural experts – all who form the individual’s community – remain central to achieving lasting impact. AgrAbility recognizes the importance of them all.
