Dairy Parlor Platform Lift
Townville, PA, dairyman Bob Baughman uses a Dairy Parlor Platform Lift to avoid the steps down to the parlor pit floor. The concrete steps were removed, and a vertical-screw actuator was installed to raise and lower the platform that he stands on.

| Need: | Milking cows from a pit-style milking parlor. |
|---|---|
| Problem Description: | Many dairy farms are equipped with pit-style milking parlors where the floor is several feet below the level where the cows stand. The cows file in from a holding pen one batch at a time, where they are held in place by pneumatically powered bars with their back legs toward the pit. The milk and vacuum hoses hang from pipelines above the pit or along the pit walls. The dairyman washes and dries the cow's udder and then attaches the milker unit. When the milk stops flowing, he/she removes the milker, dips the teats with medication to prevent infection, then releases the cow. |
